Brevard Adult Literacy Volunteers
Lighting the Path to Literacy Since 1971
Dear Friend:
Thank you for visiting our website and for your interest in Adult Literacy!
Because we are concerned about those adults in our community who cannot read and write, we volunteer our time, energy, money, and talents to help them learn.
The total population of Brevard County, Florida is 534,359. There are approximately 84,000 pre-school and school-age children, so we have approximately 450,000 adults. The 2010 U.S. Census found that 10% of the adult population in our county is illiterate. That would be 45,000 adults. We are tutoring approximately 100 of them. In order to grow into the organization that is needed, we must increase the number of dedicated volunteers and sponsors.
I invite you to join us in this effort to improve our community's literacy level and maintain our economy, which would ensure our lifestyles, safety, and health.
Sincerely,
Margie Kinslow
Executive Director
